(Fabricius, 1775)

Synonyms: Cicindela tristis

Oxycheila tristis occurs in the tropical Atlantic forest of the southeastern Brazil (from Bahia to Rio Grande do Sul) and in the Amazon. This beetle is usually found on wet rocks near waterfalls, and may enter water. Both male and female of O. tristis are known to produce sounds by rubbing the internal edge of the hind femur against the elytra. The larvae are parasitized by the bee flies (Bombyliidae).
